And I had the pleasure of doing the book talk portion....
The students were a great support (I was a little nervous speaking in front of the whole school!) and I appreciated their willingness to participate. I noticed so many hands in the air, when I posed questions for the students to ponder! I wish I could have picked more students to hold my props and answer questions!
At Meroby, we know readers make predictions, think about the problem in a fiction book, and use their prior knowledge when getting ready to read a new book.
We also know that information books (non-fiction) books, like Gail Gibbons' books, require us to read headings, examine pictures for details, read captions, along with navigating the regular text of the book.
You were thinkers today and you all rock!
With a little help from my Meroby friends, I presented a book talk using Pumpkins by Gail Gibbons and Shy Scarecrow Goes to School by Mary Packard. Many thanks to Holly who took pictures for me!
